繼 Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One 後，Sony Xperia Z 可能是第三部會推出 Google Edition 版本的手機。
未有透露身份的 Sony 人員表示，Google 跟 Sony 正在合作開發 Xperia Z Google Edition，雖然未有確實推出日期，但手機預計會在7月內公佈。按照之前 S4, HTC One Google Edition 做法，Xperia Z Google Edition 估計亦會透過 Google Play Store 推出，並限在美國開售。
現在幾間大廠中，曾經生產 Nexus 裝置有 HTC (Nexus One), Samsung (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10), LG (Nexus 4) 和 Asus (Nexus 7)，而 Motorola 亦已收歸 Google 旗下，唯獨是 Sony 沒有跟 Google 有合作項目。雖然 Google Edition 不屬 Nexus 系列，但 Stock Android 再加上由 Google 直接提供更新，Xperia Z Google Edition 也是一個很不錯的選擇。
