自從 Google 宣佈收購 Motorola 的手機業務後，無論廠商以至用家都想 Motorola 將會在 Android 系統得到一定的優勢。Google在公佈收購時，亦強調 Motorola 手機業務雖然成為 Google 的子公司，但仍會獨立運作。
Google 的 Eric Schmidt 在最近一次訪問中，再次強調 Motorola 會獨立運作，並不會影響 Android 的開放性。而 Google 亦不會改變現有的運作方式。
In general, with all of our partners, we told them that the Motorola deal will close and we will run it sufficiently and independently, that it will not violate the openness of Android…We’re not going to change in any material way the way we operate.
若果 Google 真的讓 Motorola 如過往般運作，保持其獨立性，那麼 Google 這次收購的目的就明顯不過。就是藉收購以取得 Motorola 擁有的大量專利以強化專利戰的籌碼，而不是進軍硬件業務。
但從用家角度，則希望兩家公司可以多一點合作，推出更多更優質的手機！而且大家都對親生仔手機有多點期望呢！
