早前曾提到，Google 正在為 Android 系統內 相機 API 程式碼改進，將會支援 RAW 格式, Burst Mode, Face Detection 等。但在 Android Kit Kat 公佈前一個月，Google 決定將這個新 API 抽起，不會加進至 Kit Kat 系統內，所以 Kit Kat 系統內還是採用原有 相機 API。
當時，只是從 Google Code Commit 中查找到這些資料。而最近在 CNET 的一次採訪中，Google 就確認正在開發新的 API，並會在稍後的 Android 版本推出，但就未有確實時間表。若果支援 RAW 格式，除了可以將 RAW 相片在電腦執相外。另一個衝擊應該是 Photo Editing App，將來手機上的 Photo Editing App 應該會更加強勁，不單只簡單的加 Filter, 加相框這些基本功能。

至於一直為人垢病的 Nexus 5 相機，在使用新的 API 亦應可提升質素呢。而 Google 的發言人亦表示留意到有關問題，並正在開發軟件升級，可望短時間內推出。
