Pokemon GO 除了不断加入不同世代的小精灵外，在游戏功能上亦不断增加， 由最初捉小精灵为主，陆续加入不同的游戏功能例如团体战, 训练家对战等，以保持游戏新鲜感让游戏可以延续下去。
其中训练家对战，可以各自派出小精灵出战，是最初其中一项玩家较热切期待的功能，不过训练家对战郤只限 Local 对战有局限性，双方玩家要走在一起才可对战，不能跟其他地方玩家挑战。
Pokemon GO 开发营运团队 Niantic 就表示将会在明年推出全新的 PvP 系统名为 GO Battle League，可以让玩家 Online 对战。游戏形式都是要玩家在现实世界走动，以便争取参与 GO Battle League，内里就会有配对系统让玩家跟全球其他玩家配对，进行 PvP 对战。
GO Battle League will encourage players to get out and explore the world with Pokémon. Trainers will be able to walk in order to earn entry into the GO Battle League, then battle opponents from around the globe through an online matching system and rise in the ranks of the league.
这项 GO Battle League 功能预计会在明年初推出，Niantic 稍后会发放更多资料。
